Our last trip to the bundus started off with a quick visit to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park. A long drive from Cape Town but worth every kilometer. Kgalagadi is a great place but we prefer more rugged areas – off the beaten track. Our next destination was the Central Kalahari and this was right up our liking. We camped at Deception pan and experiencing a fierce thunderstorm – something I can recommend – one of the highlights for 2012. One morning early we were lucky to find a pride of Kalahari lions after they made a kill and the early morning light (golden hour) was great for some amazing photos. Our next destination was our favourite place, the Okavango Delta. We stayed at Drotsky’s cabins specifically for bird photography. It was great to see Jan and Eileen again after so many years. We had a wonderful time and it was really unfortunate that we had to return earlier to RSA due to a back injury that resulted in an operation to my spine a few days later .
